Make your mark in Casualty Claims

The AIG Casualty Specialty Department is a group of well trained and highly dedicated claim professionals with a breadth of claim handling experience primarily focusing on Environmental, Property, General Liability, Coverage B, Bodily Injury, Toxic Tort, Mass Tort and long tail subject matters. We take a collaborative approach in handling large, complex claims, many of which implicate significant coverage issues. Team members excel from sharing each other's strengths and experiences. This position provides the opportunity to engage/work with senior claim, underwriting and actuarial management as well as for growth within the department and company.

This position will ensure high-quality claim handling in the Casualty - Complex Claims Unit. Files handled by this unit include long-tail bodily injury and property damage exposures, claims arising under Coverage B of Primary/Excess CGL policies, as well as environmental and toxic tort claims. In addition to handling claims, this position will be a coverage resource for Casualty adjusters, managers and underwriters.

How you will create an impact
  • Primary function is to investigate, evaluate and resolve new and existing high-profile complex claims, including:
    • Concussion/CTE sports injury claims
    • Toxic product exposures (Talc, benzene)
    • Opioid public nuisance litigation claims
    • PFAS groundwater contamination
    • MTBE
    • First and Third party Environmental Property damage and bodily injury exposure.
  • Hire and manage defense and coverage counsel, and any other external resources.
  • Create and provide status reports to claims management, actuarial, and underwriting.
  • Review damages and damage assessments and provide independent analysis.
  • Evaluate financial impact to AIG under various policy scenarios (e.g. primary; excess and primary coverage; excess coverage above self-insured retention, etc.);
  • Manage internal and external communications.

What you'll need to succeed
  • JD or Environmental degree required.
  • 6+ years experience in environmental or coverage-related insurance work, environmental or toxic tort litigation or environmental consulting.
  • The ability to handle complex claims involving diverse coverage issues related to GL and Environmental policies.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, along with excellent communication, negotiation and investigation skills are required.

For positions based in Jersey City, NJ and New York City, NY, the base salary range is $105,000-$122,000 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
